A road declares its grain

Every relationship declares the grain it is asserted at. A vocabulary road is a fact about the kinds' rows, asserted in the registry, walked by questions and counted on every build. A record road is a fact only an instance can carry: the registry asserts nothing on it, no spine may require it, no question walks it, and its lower bound is zero. It exists so that a record shape can name the join a person-level system must make.

What goes wrong without it

Kimball's first move is to declare the grain of a fact before anything is counted, and metrology keeps a quantity apart from the value one measurement of it takes. A road that says which tactic a conversion is credited to is true of one conversion and one tactic, never of the kinds; asserted in a vocabulary it can only be filled by the exemplar thread, and a check reading its fill sees an unfinished road where there is a fact of the wrong grain. Naming the grain on the road lets the registry hold vocabulary roads to their bounds, keeps record roads out of the spines and the questions, and gives the record shapes a declared join to stand on.

Each is a gate the build runs: a check inside a ring, a whole ring, or an eval beside them. A build stops at the first that refuses.

Where this model stands

registry/law.json `grains` declares the two grains, and every verb in registry/verbs.json names one; the graph carries it on every specification and the standards export annotates each relationship with it.

Two roads are record grain: an event attributed to a tactic, and a campaign's parent campaign. FND-033 holds a record road to a lower bound of zero, to being required by no spine, and to being walked by no question.

The four verbs that once said in what capacity a system acted at a surface folded back into one road, a surface runs on a platform, once they had been filled on one to three surfaces of fifteen and instrumentation had become readable through the signals captured on a surface; their words are retired.

What it does not claim

A record road is walked by a record shape and by nothing else; the record shapes are declared in a later step of the same phase, and until then a record road is a declared join with no shape over it.
